Typically, research translation is characterized by translation from primary science into clinical research and from clinical research to routine practice in the healthcare system. According to van Schalkwyk & Harris (2018), translational research started over the past decade and has played a huge role in easing the transition from theory to clinical practice and it is currently used to advance the evidence-based medicine movement. For instance, ‘bench to bedside’ translational research has become a prominent concept in that requires effective collaboration between clinicians and researchers to formulate and performing mock clinical trials and trying new therapeutic techniques in crucial areas such as oncology.
On that note, fostering the translation of basic clinical research into clinical practice has gained prominence in the health-related projects and policy areas on the manner of helping the communities to accept evidence-based policies. Therefore, research can have vital influence on policy by enabling scholarly foundation for research action, and units of translation science health institutions which have the capacity to create bridges between policy making bodies and research to facilitate the establishment of evidence-based policy. Moreover, research also influences the health policy because the adoption and implementation of the policy is guided by the standards of translational biomedical research that ensures that each phase of health policy is transparent, polished, and officially documented based on standardized methods (van Schalkwyk & Harris, 2018).
Patient and community advocacy is considered to be an ethic nursing practice and it is among the fundamental principles of profession of advance registered nurses. As such, all advanced registered nurses should be patient advocates who intervene on behalf of patients and communities to ensure quality of care is upheld and patients’ rights are protected. registered nurse could play vital roles in advocating for equitable population health services and policies through provision of crucial information to inform decision making and also advancing and supporting the voice of patients concerning their choices and care (Williams, Phillips &Koyama, 2018). That is, the advanced registered nurses advocates for equitable population health services and policies by using their knowledge to persuade those in position of power to ensure implementation to uphold equitable population health services. Besides, advanced registered nurses also generate evidence and engage in research to help in shaping equitable population health services and policies. Nursing research is vital in building a strong scientific basis for favorable population health services and policies. However, the nurses needs critical attributes such as confidence, proficient in the art of having difficult debates, and being assertive and capable of sustaining open mindedness and professionalism to succeed in advocacy practices. However, the possible challenges in policy advocacy include fear of risk taking, poor knowledge of policy and patient advocacy, feeling powerless to approach those in positions of power, fear of conflict, and poor decision making ability.
