Systems Analysis Your team has been charged with evaluating a systems upgrade for a software company called Gatorware Software. Currently, Gatorware Software creates software used by Healthcare Management Organizations (HMOs), Federally Insured Banks and Financial Institutions, as well employee payroll systems. Current Environment (NOTE: if there are terms/equipment/strategies you are not familiar with here research them! If in doubt email me): -two main campuses. -all software development done in-house. -IBM mainframe computers onsite with proprietary AIX Unix operating systems. -thin client workstations are connected to the mainframes. -all main code repositories stored onsite using Subversion (SVN) as a source code control tool. -software development teams use internal email to collaborate. -main system development methodology used is Structured Analysis using Object Orientated (O-O) methods with stress on the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and the waterfall model. -all source code is backed up by nightly tape backups using LTO-7 Ultrium tapes and tape autoloader. -completed tapes are securely stored offsite with Iron Mountain. -main campuses communicate through a legacy dedicated frame relay network maintained locally by their IT departments which have a special arrangement with their local ISP. -remote access to the development, Q/A, or production environments is strictly forbidden accept for a secure website (internally hosted by IT) where customers can securely log in and download their latest patches and updates. New Environment: -will still maintain two main campuses but also several satellite offices. -software development still mainly to be done in-house but will contract out some work to third party consultants. -will be moving the development, Q/A, and production environments out to the cloud using Amazon Web Services (AWS) as well as Docker and Kubernetes. -the company has adopted a new Software As A Service (SaaS) model of operation and customers subscribe to use their products logging into the cloud based service hosted by AWS to get access to their own container configured to their specifications. -onsite the mainframe environment will be replaced with a series of Dell PowerEdge servers that will support a series of Dell Windows workstations. -GitHub is to be used for source code control tool and development team collaboration will be done using Slack. -the main system development methodology will transition to an agile approach stressing Extreme Programming (XP) methods. -remote access to all environments will be provided through VPN so that third party vendors can have access to the companys systems as well as IT staff that will telecommute. Management would also like to implement a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy at any of their locations. REQUIRED Briefing Document (make sure you follow the format specified for a Briefing Document as per the sample Briefing Document under Course Resources): Provide a briefing document that evaluates in detail the impact of transitioning to the new proposed environment. Every item mentioned must be discussed in terms of its impact upon: Training of staff. Difficulty of implementation. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) short term and long term (if actual numbers are not available provide an overview of what you believe the impact would be on TCO long and short term). Impact upon system documentation. Any changes to internal policies and procedures. Impact upon security. Any additional concerns. In addition, management would like you to recommend a backup solution for the new system. Make sure that valid external references are provided and listed at the end of your Briefing Document to support all your main points/conclusions.
