NRS 440 Assignment Combining Nurse Leader with Advocacy Essay
I have both professional and personal accountability shortcomings and strengths. The first strength is that I am constantly striving to deliver the greatest possible service to patients, which implies that I must commit to furthering my knowledge. I also make every effort to learn from both new and seasoned nurses. Similarly, I never justify my errors; instead, I learn from them. My primary flaw in professional and personal accountability is that I have blamed circumstances in the past rather than focused on preventing mistakes in the future. In terms of career planning, I have been working hard to improve my education level, and I am committed to adjusting to various scenarios throughout my career. Diverse conditions need different leadership styles, according to Xu (2017). I’ve been learning about developing trends in nursing practice, and I’m considering how my educational background can help me perform well in a variety of settings. My other asset is that I am familiar with job descriptions in my field. I’ve been working on improving my communication abilities, which will help me articulate my talents. One significant shortcoming in this aspect is that I have not networked with many professionals in my field, but I want to do so by joining many professional organisations.
I am excellent at working with interdisciplinary teams to give the best patient outcomes and a happy working environment, according to my personal path disciplines. I also pay close attention to situations that call for change, which entails that I guide and consult with others as necessary. I am good at using my programmed knowledge and questioning other people’s judgment. However, I have a weakness in that I occasionally let other people’s opinions draw me in to the point that I take my time making choices. Dyess, Sherman, Pratt, and Chiang-Hanisko (2016) claim that a number of factors can prevent leaders from taking part in crucial decision-making. This can cause new nursing staff to make bad choices. I base my decisions on numerous principles created by the Center for Learning Leadership.

These competencies fall under three domains namely the art of leading people, the ability to create leadership within oneself, and the science of managing the business. Business management entails aspects such as clinical practice knowledge, strategic management, technology, human resource management, financial management, among others. In advocating for change in my organization, I will use my leadership skill in several ways. First, I will work with professionals in different fields to ensure a smooth transition from one situation to the other. Second, I will ensure that everyone in the organization takes responsibility for their actions rather than blaming others. I will serve as an example to others by exhibiting integrity and ethical behavior in my actions. Finally, I will network with professionals in different healthcare fields, which will enable me to be up-to-date with new developments and trends. This will also help me in developing my leadership skills, which will particularly be critical during crises.
Gathering in-depth knowledge about my industry is my personal goal for leadership development so that I can be a trustworthy leader. In my leadership position as a nurse, information is essential. I’ll try to study more books, go to conferences and symposiums, put in more effort throughout my career, and watch and seek advice from those with more leadership experience in order to accomplish this aim. I’m going to put a lot of effort into improving my communication and confidence as a leader. I will make an effort to create and maintain a positive work environment that is defined by improved organizational performance and patient outcomes. In conclusion, nurses particularly in leadership positions ought to ensure that diagnostic and therapeutic procedures result in patient satisfaction and better health outcomes. Nurses should have the ability to communicate about the best course of action to ensure better organizational performance. Nurse leaders need to use leadership skills in their advocacy role.
