International Nurse Coach Association
Persuasive PresentationEverywhere we look right now, there are ads for wellness coaching. How is this different than a certified nurse coach? Is it different? Are there ethics involved? Read at least 3 articles on the value of nurse coaching. To begin you may want to look at AHNA (American Holistic Nurses Association) or INCA (International Nurse Coach Association); they are reputable sources, then consider “Googling” nurse or wellness coach. What are the differences?
Description of the assignment: Step One: Imagine a scenario in which you need to persuade another individual of the benefits of nurse/wellness coaching in a professional setting. Ex: you want to be said individual to hire you as a coach, you need to convince an insurance company, you need to convince a boss to incorporate wellness coaching into professional development, etc. Define that scenario and your audience as clearly as you can.
Write out a description of your scenario and potential audience in two paragraphs in a document that you submit into the Persuasive Presentation Assignment Folder. Step Two: Present an “Elevator pitch” you would use on your intended audience. An elevator pitch, elevator speech, or elevator statement is a short description of an idea, product or company that explains the concept in a way such that any listener can understand it in a short period of time. A good elevator pitch should last no longer than a short elevator ride of 20 to 30 seconds, hence the name. For example, “What if I told you that providing a nurse coach on staff could prevent burnout and save you X amount of dollars in the next 2 years”?
Record your 30-second elevator pitch (on video with a webcam) using the “Record Video” button in the D2L Dropbox. Step Three: Your elevator pitch worked. You have been invited to give a short presentation on the topic of your elevator pitch. The purpose of this presentation is to convince the audience of the value of nurse/wellness coaching (as you defined the scenario in step one). Look at examples online. Create a 6-8 slide PowerPoint presentation and script or outline you would use for this presentation.
(You do NOT have to record your presentation – just submit the slides and your script, so the script/outline needs to be thorough.) Your presentation should combine the elements of art, science, and business. Begin by introducing yourself, and what you do, explain what you have to offer and how you can do this and how you would end the pitch. You may include photos, blogs, graphs, etc.(150 points)Faculty Criteria for Evaluation of Persuasive Presentation Name of Student: ____________________Criterion PointsSubmit 2-paragraph scenario and audience description. 50Record a convincing (video) elevator pitch with all elements 50Submit 8-10 slide PowerPoint presentation and script/outline including all elements in the description of the project. 50Total Points for Presentation (150 points possible)
