The listening component of communication skills is one of the most important aspects of communication, as the communicator is conveying not only information but details about their moods, attitudes, and levels of engagement. The Bible says in Proverbs 11:12, that a man of understanding holds his peace, and in Ecclesiastes 7:21-22, it says we are not to take the things that people say too literally. Nonverbal communication is the conveyance of far more subtle and embedded information, which has to do with our body language, tone, and gestures that can tell our audience about how we feel and are connected with the information (Van Wart, 2011, p. 294). An example of nonverbal communication may be found in Genesis 4:6 when God as Cain why had his countenance fallen, perceiving there was an issue by the nonverbal cues Cain gave.
