This week you have been exploring the interrelationship between theory, knowledge, and research and evidence-based practice. As you begin Application 2, which builds on the work completed for Application 1, consider how evidence-based approaches based on theories from disciplines other than nursing could be used to guide your EBP Assignment.
To prepare for Assignment: Application 2: Laying the Foundation for New Approaches to Practice:
- Using the Walden Library and other scholarly resources, locate evidence-based practice approaches based on theories from disciplines other than nursing.
- Evaluate various approaches and determine if one could be used to support your EBP Assignment.
You will incorporate this information into Application 2 as you continue to develop it next week.

NURS 8140 Week 4: New Practice Approaches, Part I
As underscored in Week 3, science provides a foundation for nursing practice and practice guidelines—yet, it can be surprising to realize that the latest research evidence is often not applied in practice, or that practice guidelines may not be updated based on new evidence.
The aim of evidence-based practice is to ensure that the most current science is used to promote the highest quality of health care. This is accomplished through the analysis, synthesis, and application of research, theory, and knowledge to nursing practice.
This week, you explore the interrelationships between theory, knowledge, research, and nursing practice and how this influences evidence-based practice. You also continue your EBP Assignment, as you initiate work on Application 2.
